What is marriage coaching?

Marriage coaching is a collaboration between you, your spouse, and the two of us. Together we map out a plan to move your marriage from where you are to where you’d like to be. We serve couples who are seeking enrichment as well as those in need of significant healing first.

We meet with you for one hour each week for six months over video call.

As your marriage coaches we advocate for your marriage from the outside. We believe God intended for your marriage to always be growing. More security, more friendship, more joy, more passion, and more unity. Without a community supporting the marriage, this growth is often too slow or absent.

We are not married yet, can you help?

Yes! This is the best option. Invest in your vocation so that profound intimacy becomes a habit for you from the start! Marriage training makes a great wedding present. Please call us to arrange the details of such a caring gift.

What if I’m not sure I’m ready to sign up?

Inviting anyone into the deeply personal space of your marriage relationship takes courage and vulnerability. There are plenty of good reasons you might prefer to put it off. Rather than sign up, just give us a call to meet us on the phone first. No commitment, no pressure, we’ll start by telling you about ourselves.

What are the objectives of coaching?

  • Defining the areas you desire to grow in
  • Mapping a path to bring about change
  • Teaching the practical skills required for joy, trust, and hope
  • Encouraging you through the work that all great marriages require

Is marriage coaching the same as marriage counseling?

Coaching and counseling are not the same thing. There is some overlap in what each service can help you to accomplish.

A licensed therapist or counselor is trained to diagnose and treat mental disorder and mental illness. By contrast coaches have not received this training/license. If you feel mental illness, adultery, addiction, or abuse play a role in your marriage, seek the help of a professional, licensed marriage therapist before or in parallel with marriage coaching.

A marriage coach offers practical skills, encouragement, and training in the practical skills required to be married well. Note that all great counselors are simultaneously great coaches as well. A masterful coach will empower you to build your own zeal, skill, and hope in order to respond to God’s call on your life.

What is the next step for your marriage?

What do I do since I don’t have any hope left?

Call us. Hope is only gone if you remain alone. Reach out. If you or your spouse do not yet desire growth, don’t believe its possible, or don’t see where more energy for change might come from, call.

What can I do if my spouse is not willing to participate?

It is often the case that one spouse may be reticent to participate in marriage coaching. There are different reasons why this may occur. In some cases significant progress toward healing can be made with only one spouse actively seeking coaching. Please call us to discuss your situation.

How long does coaching last?

We have a path for everyone. If you are at peace in your marriage and seeking after more profound unity - we’ll start with a month of marriage enrichment skills training. If you are in need of significant healing, we’ll start with a 3 month commitment of 12 weekly sessions.

Learning the skills and practicing them to mastery usually requires about a year. You can expect a bit less if you’re newly married. You can expect longer if you have long established poor habits. The healing you seek is offered in such a way that clients often experience relief after just a month of training.

Will our fees be covered by our insurance?

They will not. Your fees are subsidized by our mission partners and are quite affordable.

What does this cost us?

The client couple pays between $25 to $250 per hour of coaching. Your cost is determined during our application process. We try not to turn people away for lack of funding.

How is this ministry funded?

Our larger Christian family shows their support for your marriage by investing in you.
The mission partners team of families all believe you are worth this investment.
Our investment is our vote of confidence in you. If you are willing to do the work, God will bring the healing you are thirsty for. He has saved the best wine until now.

I know a married couple who needs coaching. How do I invite them?

Terrific! God may be asking you to consider making this invitation on His behalf. Jesus is looking forward to serving his best wine to them. It never works to merely pass along our business card.
For your friends to come for coaching requires significant vulnerability and courage. It requires equal courage from you if it is to be successful.

How is Two by Two different from Retrouvaille?

While some couples do find healing through Retrouvaille, others require greater investment to find Christ's healing. The investors are our mission partners. The work is done Two by Two : coaches Erica & Marco journeying with the client couple teaching (practical skills), offering the encouragement, and accountability needed to forge the marriage God wants for them to enjoy.

Through weekly coaching we offer intense hope and confidence to the married couples from the outside. By spending an hour each week with them we proclaim : “Your marriage is worth our time.” In coming alongside their marriage, Christ’s promise to be with them is fulfilled. This witness is made even more powerful by the larger community making this mission possible.

We are very similar to both Marriage Encounter and Retrouvaille in that we teach practical methods for how to be married joyfully.

What is Retrouvaille?

Retrouvaille is often a life changing retreat experience which helps each couple to reconnect emotionally. Once reconnected the couple are able to tackle life together once more. These retreats are held locally throughout the country several times each year.
